Wife of Euless officer killed in wreck released from hospital just in time for Christmas

Priscilla Cervantes went home Wednesday for Christmas.

Less than a month after being critically injured in a wreck in Lake Worth that killed her husband, Euless Detective Alejandro “Alex” Cervantes, Cervantes quietly left John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth on Wednesday morning.

She was in a wheelchair as left the hospital surrounded by a host of police officers from Euless, Fort Worth and other agencies. She stepped into a Euless police vehicle and was escorted home.

Cervantes did not make any comments.

“You couldn’t ask for anything better,” said Euless Police Sgt. Scott Peterson, who spoke to the media Wednesday just before Cervantes was released. “It’s remarkable. It’s something we have been waiting for.”

On Nov. 27, Cervantes was in the car with her husband and their two sons when another vehicle ran a stop light and crashed into the Cervantes’ family car near Boat Club Road and Rocky Point Trail in Lake Worth. The driver of that vehicle, Dylan Molina, 26, had a blood alcohol level of 0.16, police said. A preliminary breath test had shown his alcohol level at 0.14.

The blood test also found the presence of THC — the active ingredient in marijuana — in his blood, according to records provided to police by the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Molina has been charged with one count of intoxication manslaughter, one count of accident causing serious injury or death, three counts of intoxication assault and one count of possession of a controlled substance because of a THC vape pen he had, according to Lake Worth police.

On the day of the crash, Cervantes’ wife was taken to a hospital in critical condition.

Priscilla Cervantes was released from a Fort Worth hospital Wednesday after being critically injured in a traffic accident that killed her husband last month in Lake Worth. He was a Euless detective. Euless police gave Priscilla Cervantes an escort home.

Their two young sons also were seriously injured in the crash. They are continuing to build strength at home and resting comfortably surrounded by loved ones, according to a department statement.

The Euless Police Officers Benevolent Organization has set up an account for those who wish to donate to the family.

“It’s a great day for Priscilla Cervantes, her family and the Euess Police Department,” Peterson said. “She gets to spend Christmas with her family at home.”
