Two Anniston women die in Calhoun County crash

Two Anniston women died as a result of a two-vehicle crash Tuesday, according to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency's Highway Patrol Division.

Karen R. Tatum, 60, suffered critical injuries when the 2001 Toyota Avalon she was driving was struck by a 2021 Hyundai Santa Fe driven by Taran Seymour, 56, state troopers said.

After the initial collision, both vehicles went off the road and hit a tree.

Tatum was taken to Regional Medical Center in Anniston, where she died from her injuries. A passenger in her vehicle, Karen J. Pope, 36, of Anniston, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.

Seymour was taken to UAB Hospital in Birmingham for treatment.

The crash occurred at about 12:50 p.m. on Choccolocco Road, about 11 miles west of Anniston.

State troopers continue to investigate.
