Severe thunderstorms, tornadoes, large hail predicted in the CSRA Friday afternoon

May 6—The National Weather Service in Columbia issued a hazardous weather outlook for Aiken, Edgefield, Saluda and Barnwell counties — warning of potential storms, tornadoes and hail Friday afternoon.

A cold front will bring a line of strong to severe thunderstorms through the area around 5 p.m., according to the weather service. The main threat will be damaging winds, isolated tornadoes and large hail.

Brief heavy rainfall will also be possible. Storms should subside by 11 p.m.

The probability for widespread hazardous weather is low through the weekend, according to the weather service.

School district announces cancellations

The Aiken County Public School District announced cancellations in response to the severe weather threat.

"...Due to the threat of severe weather this afternoon, all after-school and evening activities have been canceled for today, including The Quest Zone after school care, as well as our all-employee event, Amp the Appreciation," according to a release from the school district.
