Princess Diana's wedding dress, which she wore to her 1981 nuptials, undeniably caught viewers' attention around the world. Today, the same can be said of the latest iteration of her iconic gown, made for Netflix's The Crown; the late royal's ensemble was recreated for the show and is so accurate, one of Princess Di's wedding dress designers spoke out to praise it. According to People, Elizabeth Emanuel, who brought the original garment to life—25-foot-long train and all—alongside her former husband, David Emanuel, thinks the copy is spot-on. "The dress looks lovely," Elizabeth told the outlet. "They have done a great job in capturing the spirit of the wedding gown."

The resemblance between Diana's dress and the recreation is uncanny—but, contrary to initial reports, the designer did not give The Crown's producers the original patterns. The fashion mogul does, however, love the show and is looking forward to the full unveiling when the new season hits screens. "Emma Corrin looks wonderful in it. I'm a big fan of The Crown, it's an amazing series and I'm looking forward to seeing it when it comes out," Elizabeth added.

The Netflix series gave viewers a sneak peek at the upcoming season this week—highlighting Princess Diana's big-day look, in particular. "A first glimpse of Princess Diana's wedding dress," read a Tweet. "Emmy award-winning costume designer Amy Roberts wanted to capture the same spirit and style of David & Elizabeth Emanuel's original design, without creating a replica for Emma Corrin."

As for the original? Ivory silk taffeta embellished with lace, hand embroidery, sequins, and 10,000 pearls made up the royal's iconic gown, which she wore when she walked down the aisle nearly four decades ago. The Emanuels also paid tribute to Queen Mary by using her namesake lace to trim the dress.
