Prep Golf Roundup: Willmar takes 10th at Bemidji Invitational

May 1—BEMIDJI — Kessa Mara shot a 92 to tie for 16th place as Willmar finished 10th of 14 teams Friday in the Bemidji Invitational.

Brainerd won the event with a 322 at Bemidji Town & Country Club. Detroit Lakes was second with a 331. Willmar had a 407.

The Cardinals' next best individual was Bailey Olson, who tied for 28th with a 96.

Brainerd's Katie Foley shot a 76 to earn medalist honors. She slipped past Bemidji's Nicki Son, who had a 77. Brainerd's Anna Krieger shot a 78.

With all four of its scorers with 9-hole rounds under 40, the New London-Spicer boys beat Glencoe-Silver Lake by 10 strokes to win the Wright County Conference meet at Shamrock Golf Course.

Peyton Coahran, Noah Dietz and Nixon Harrier each carded 38s for the Wildcats, who finished with a team score of 153. Jake Rooney completed the team score with 39.

Litchfield's Sam Tipka took medalist honors with a 36, beating GSL's Zach Meyer and Rockford's Phillip Gorder by a stroke. As a team, the Dragons placed third with 164.

The Lakeview boys and Canby girls won the Camden Conference South division meet at Countryside Golf Club in Minneota.

The Laker boys finished with a score of 173. Lakeview's Carson Boe and Minneota's Cole Myhre shared medalist honors with each shooting 40s in the nine-hole round. Yellow Medicine East placed fifth with 208 and was led by Nick Moritz' 47.

Canby was the only complete team for the girls, finishing with 255. Minneota's Lauren Bowyer was the medalist with a 45.

The Preview — Edinburgh

Community Christian senior Brett Reid carded an even-par 72 at Edinburgh Golf Course in Brooklyn Park.

That was good enough for a tie for seventh place for Reid. The Eagles took 12th with a 344. CCS was by far the smallest school enrollment-wise in the tournament.

Maple Grove and Minnetonka tied for first with 298s. Eden Prairie (308) was third and Edina (311) was fourth.

Minnetonka's Carson Herron earned medalist honors with a 5-under-par 67.
