Post ‘Avengers: Endgame’, What’s Next for Marvel Fans?

As the decade-long storytelling of Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), spanning through 22 movies, comes to an end with the release of Avengers: Endgame, the fans are left with a void.

The last movie of the MCU was one of the most anticipated movies of 2019, so much so, that ticketing platform BookMyShow recorded advance ticket sales with 2.5 million tickets sold in India by 25 April.

This makes Avengers: Endgame the fastest film to have surpassed the 2 million advance ticket sales mark on the platform.

While the movie enjoys a phenomenal reception, the Avenger buffs clearly have mixed emotions about it. As the joy of a new Avengers movie coming out fades away, they are faced with the reality of it also being the last one.

One wonders, is it really the end? And as the Twitter buzz goes - there ain't no post credits scenes either. But there is always a silver lining.

What Next?

Marvel Cinematic Studio, which is one of the properties of Disney, will be making a major shift from theatre to small screen later this year. Last month, Disney bought 20th Century Fox.

A few days after the Disney-Fox merger came the announcement that Disney will be launching a subscription-based streaming site later in 2019 - Disney Plus, where all the latest Marvel movies will be dropped.

Another Marvel Marathon?

From Marvel Studios, under the umbrella of MCU, the site will offer five original series in the first year.

Reprising that roles of Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan, MCU will bring Falcon and Winter Soldier (yes, they died in Avengers: Infinity War) in an action series. The show will premier in the first year of the site’s launch.

Other characters coming back will be Scarlet Witch and The Vision (also died in Avengers: Infinity War) played by Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany respectively in a show called WandaVision. The MCU show will be premiered in the second year of the launch.

One of the best villains/heroes of the MCU, Loki will also be revived into a live-action series and will premier the same year as WandaVision.

Coming back to the silver lining: Disney+, as reported by SYFYWire, will be releasing a documentary in the first year of its launch - Marvel's 616. This documentary will examine the context, historical and societal, of the Marvel storytelling.
