PGA Tour Championship leaderboard: Live updates, highlights from East Lake Golf Club

The PGA Tour Playoffs finish this weekend with the PGA Tour Championship at East Lake. The top five players in FedExCup points are: Jordan Spieth, Justin Thomas, Dustin Johnson, Marc Leishman and Jon Rahm.

If any of the top five win manage to the Playoff finale, they are mathematically guaranteed a FedExCup victory. A FedExCup win also comes with a $10 million bonus. For Spieth, this would be his second FedExCup victory in three years.

He would also become the second golfer to win the FedExCup more than once after Tiger Woods won in 2007 and 2009. However with the depth in the field and tight competition, we could see the trophies split. One golfer could win the Tour Championship, but another could win the FedExCup. This hasn't happened since 2009 when Tiger Woods won the FedExCup and Phil Mickelson won the Tour Championship. It would be a lot less-awkward if the trophies split in 2017 between the likely 24-year-old duo of Spieth and Thomas.

East Lake will host the top 30 players at the Tour Championship. However, eight of the last 10 FedExCup champions of this event did not make it back to East Lake this year.

Stanley moves to 6-under and the broadcast team is loving all of the possible scenarios right now. Keep in mind we're halfway through the first round.

Listening to Spieth yell at himself after hitting a poor shot will never get old. He lands in a bunker with his shot off the tee and yells, "Why'd you have to do that, gosh!"

Stanley with a long birdie on 15, he moves to 5-under. He holds a two-shot lead over a group of five golfers back at 3-under.

Spieth and Thomas. A round between friends, but no doubt one is trying to up the other on every shot of these 18 holes. They are both 1-under.

Matsuyama, No. 3 in the world, starts the front nine at 6-over par: two bogeys, two doubles.

Jason Day is on a roll. He has four straight birdies.

Russell Henley back in the red numbers after starting off 3-over thru 8.

The leader in FedExCup points is out on the course, along with Justin Thomas.

The winner of the FedExCup gets $10 million, but for some, a ticket to three of next year's majors is more important.

Stanley leads the way now at 4-under thru 6.

As you can see, a lot of scenarios are in play at East Lake. We're lucky there are computers and programs to figure all of this out.

Not impossible though, Bill Haas won as a 25-seed in 2011.

Half of the field is out on the course now. Five players are under par already: Jason Dufner, Sergio Garcia, Gary Woodland, Xander Shauffele and Kyle Stanley.

Seven of the last eight FedExCup champions are not in the field this weekend at East Lake. Past winners Rory McIlroy (2016), Billy Horschel (2014), Henrik Stenson (2013), Brandt Snedeker (2012), Bill Haas (2011), Jim Furyk (2010), Vijay Singh (2008) and Tiger Woods (2007, 2009). Spieth (2015) is the only previous champion in the mix.
