A West Palm Beach motorist was traveling westbound in the 5300 block of 10th Avenue North when the pedestrian improperly tried to cross the roadway, violating the motorist’s right of way, according to a Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office report. This month, the Palm Beach Transportation Planning Agency, a public entity that funds transportation projects and devises traffic safety programs, lamented the high number of pedestrian and bicycle fatal accidents in the county. Palm Beach County had 62 such accidents in 2022. It had a 13% increase in those types of accidents from 2021 to 2022 and 31% from 2018 to 2022. Other South Florida counties have seen reductions.

A number of traffic safety programs are expected to soon be launched, including an effort to protect bicyclists by building bike lanes that are separated from motorists.
