    Spencer Knight of Darien got a prestigious 23rd birthday present on Friday: The American Hockey League announced Friday that Knight, playing for the Charlotte Checkers, was voted this year's Fred T. Hunt Award winner. The Hunt Award, akin to the NHL's Masterton Trophy, honors a player for his “sportsmanship, determination and dedication to hockey.”

After posting a 5-1-1 record with a 1.29 goals-against average, a .947 save percentage and three shutouts in seven appearances for the Charlotte Checkers in March, the 22-year-old goaltender was named the AHL Goaltender of the Month, the league announced on Monday.
