One of the most dubious streaks in hockey history is over, as the Edmonton Oilers defeated the Los Angeles Kings 7-4 in Game 1 of their Stanley Cup Playoffs best-of-seven first round series at Rogers Place on Monday (April 22). Edmonton's victory ends its NHL-record streak of six consecutive losses in the first game of a postseason series at home.
Connor McDavid had a goal and added his 100th assist of the season, becoming just the fourth player in NHL history to hit the milestone behind Wayne Gretzky (11 times), Mario Lemieux and Bobby Orr. Corey Perry, Cody Ceci, Evan Bouchard and Zach Hyman all scored to help the Oilers snap a two-game losing streak. Edmonton has gone 11-1-2 in its last 14 home games.
Evan Bouchard scored the tiebreaking goal midway through the third period, and the Edmonton Oilers beat the Calgary Flames 4-2 on Saturday night. Leon Draisaitl, Connor Brown and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins also scored for Edmonton, which is 5-1-1 in their last seven games. Calvin Pickard stopped 33 shots to improve to 12-6-0.
