Last week, the San Jose Sharks announced the winner of three organizational awards that were voted on by members of the media. There were few bright spots on the Sharks this season, the organization as a whole struggled and specifically on offense, it was difficult to watch at times. Compared to the rest though, Mikael Granlund made putting up points look easy this season. It wasn't close either, as the second-highest point-getter was William Eklund who put up 45 in 80 games.
A plethora of San Jose Sharks players did not join the team for their final road trip of the year, ending their respective seasons and for a few of them, likely their tenures with the organization. Forwards Kevin Labanc, Mike Hoffman, Filip Zadina, and Alexander Barabanov, forward/defenseman Jacob MacDonald, defenseman Jan Rutta, and goalie Mackenzie Blackwood all did not travel with the Sharks, who face the Edmonton Oilers tonight and the Calgary Flames on Thursday to close the regular season.
Liam Ohgren scored his first career goal and the Minnesota Wild beat San Jose 6-2 on Saturday night to assure the Sharks of having the best odds to win the NHL draft lottery. Ohgren, a first-round pick from the 2022 draft, made his NHL debut on Friday night in Las Vegas and delivered in a big way in his second career game.
