Thatcher Demko is week to week for the Vancouver Canucks with a lower-body injury but is expected to return prior to the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Vancouver's No. 1 goalie made 12 saves before leaving with the injury 6:40 into the second period of a 5-0 win against the Winnipeg Jets on Saturday. Demko is 34-13-2 in 49 games, tied for the NHL lead in wins with Alexandar Georgiev of the Colorado Avalanche, and is eighth in save percentage (.917), and ninth in goals-against average (2.47) among goalies who have played at least 20 games.
Casey DeSmith made 10 saves in relief for the Canucks (42-17-7), who opened a season-long nine-game homestand with their fourth straight win after sweeping a three-game road trip. Quinn Hughes had two assists. Connor Hellebuyck made 32 saves for the Jets (40-18-5), who split a two-game, back-to-back road trip after a 3-0 win at the Seattle Kraken on Friday.
The Vancouver Canucks had lost six of their last seven games heading into their three-game road trip in early March. When they ground out a 2-1 win against the Anaheim Ducks, it was a good start not just to the road trip but also to turning things around. Then they did it again against a much tougher opponent, working their way to a 2-1 win over the Los Angeles Kings. On Thursday, the Canucks finished off the road trip with a win over another tough Pacific Division rival, the Vegas Golden Knights, that requires no caveats.
