Blake Coleman scored his 30th goal and MacKenzie Weegar netted his 20th as the Calgary Flames beat the San Jose Sharks 5-1 on Thursday night in the season-ending game for both teams. Weegar had never had more than eight goals in a season. The jump to 20 tied the 30-year-old for third among blueliners behind only Roman Josi (23) and Cale Makar (21). More impressive for Calgary coach Ryan Huska, Weegar became the first NHL player to score 20 goals while also blocking 200 shots.
Calgary Flames winger Blake Coleman has had countless conversations throughout this season with the local media. Each media member is asked to list their top three choices, and the 32-year-old Coleman was on every single ballot this year.
The powerplay was potent. Put those two things together and you get a 4-2 Flames victory over their Pacific Division cousins - the LA Kings - Saturday night at the Scotiababank Saddledome. On an evening the team hosted their first South Asian Celebration night, Nazem Kadri, Martin Pospisil, Blake Coleman and MacKenzie Weegar scored for the Flames as they snapped a five-game losing funk.
