Corey Perry finds himself in the unique and privileged position of getting to compete for his elusive second career championship in this season's Stanley Cup Playoffs. Few could have predicted that, let alone that he would sign another NHL contract midway through the season, after an abrupt dismissal and contract termination by the Chicago Blackhawks in November. After an early and mid-career run of success with the Anaheim Ducks, which included a championship in 2007 and several additional appearances in the Western Conference Final, Perry has returned to the NHL's final round a surprising three times – with the Dallas Stars in 2020, the Montreal Canadiens in 2021, and Tampa Bay Lightning in 2022 – but suffered defeat in each instance.
New Montreal Canadiens defenceman Logan Mailloux has picked a jersey number. The 21-year-old will wear No. 94 with the club, a number last donned by Corey Perry during the 2021 season. Mailloux wore No. 24 with the Laval Rockets this season in the AHL but is switching things up at the NHL level. While Perry was the last Canadiens player to wear No. 94, there have been a few others to pick the unusual number throughout the team's long history.
The Edmonton Oilers are in the midst of another standout season in the Western Conference, sitting just five points back of the Pacific Division's top spot with six games left in 2023-24. At 47-24-5, the Oil are again looking like one of the teams to beat in the NHL — and Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl are hungry for a Stanley Cup.
