At 42-19, the New York Yankees are on the playoff pathway, with one former general manager characterizing them as the league's No. 1 trade deadline buyer. According to The Athletic's Jim Bowden, second baseman Gleyber Torres and first baseman Anthony Rizzo are the players identified by decision-makers across the league who need to step up or not be a vital part of the roster by July 30. “The Yankees' right side of the infield has underperformed and if the production doesn't improve, that will be the area of focus to upgrade via trades,” Bowden, the former Washington Nationals and Cincinnati Reds GM, wrote Monday. While the Yankees' hitting is a strength — its 123 wRC+ is No. 1 and it has scored the third-most runs in baseball — Torres and Rizzo have been holes.
