Ty France and the Seattle Mariners never left Texas with a win last season. France and Urías hit two-run homers and Luis Castillo pitched six solid innings in a 4-3 win Thursday to take two of three in a stadium where the Mariners had lost eight games in a row, including all six last season.
To say the Texas Rangers looked ready for a day off by the end of this stretch of 17 games that began with the season just seven days old might be an understatement. There were highs and lows over these two and a half weeks, and it ended on a low note with a series loss to the NL East-leading Atlanta Braves. For all the problems that surfaced over this stretch of games, the positives to take away from it are that Nathaniel Lowe is back, Max Scherzer is closer to returning than was originally thought, and the Rangers get their well-earned day of rest ahead of a homestand that begins on Tuesday.
Yordan Alvarez homered for the second game in a row, among his three hits as Houston rallied from an early deficit to beat the Texas Rangers 10-5 on Monday night after Astros scheduled starter Framber Valdez was scratched because of elbow soreness. No. 9 batter Victor Caratini added a three-run homer as the Astros earned a split in the four-game series that was the first this season between the AL West rivals. Seth Martinez (1-0) worked 3 2/3 scoreless innings in relief as the first of four pitchers after Blair Henley retired only one of the nine batters he faced.
