When he was designated for assignment by the Blue Jays last week, Mitch White packed up his things, headed west and tried to manifest destiny. “It couldn't have worked out better,” the 29-year-old right-hander said Tuesday afternoon from his new locker in the Giants' clubhouse. Sitting at home in San Diego, White received a call from assistant general manager Jeremy Shelley, who informed him that the Giants had worked out a trade with Toronto. San Francisco sent cash considerations, and the San Jose-born pitcher would get the chance to suit up for the team he grew up rooting for.
The Giants will have a new reliever in Mitch White, who Farhan Zaidi is familiar with. On the flip side, Jordan Hicks continues to take steps forward in his new role as a starter.
Toronto relievers Jordan Romano and Erik Swanson had bags packed by their locker-room stalls at Rogers Centre on Wednesday ahead of a trip to Buffalo to continue building up for a return from the injured list. The sooner they get back from their Triple-A assignments, the better it'll be for a Toronto bullpen that has missed them. Relievers Tim Mayza and Mitch White had rough outings for the Blue Jays as Seattle scored five times in the 10th inning for a 6-1 victory to avoid a three-game sweep. With Mitch Garver aboard as the automatic runner, Cal Raleigh took Mayza's first pitch over the wall to give the Mariners the lead.
