HS FOOTBALL: LFC unveils 2021 schedule

May 7—District 2 is ready for a full football schedule this fall.

The Lackawanna Interscholastic Athletic Association and Wyoming Valley Conference approved the 10-game slate ahead of the 2020 season. However, protocols implemented during the coronavirus pandemic forced the leagues to scraps the plan and new schedules were adopted to accommodate safety guidelines.

Officials simply implemented the schedule with some changes in regard to home and away based on games that were played between opponents last season.

The Lackawanna Football Conference will maintain its plan of having four, five-team divisions. That requires teams to schedule four games within the division.

There are several crossover games against Wyoming Valley Conference teams to complete the 10-game regular season with a number of intriguing ones.

In Week 1, which is Aug. 27-28, Valley View will visit Dallas in a matchup between programs that played in District 2 Class 4A championship games in 2018 and 2019.

Also that weekend, Lakeland is at Lake-Lehman in a rematch of last season's District 2 Class 3A title game.

On Sept. 3, Delaware Valley travels to Valley View for a much-anticipated battle between power programs. Last season, Valley View chose not to play Delaware Valley because it had a late start to the preseason because of coronavirus shutdowns. That same weekend, reigning District 2 Class 2A champion Dunmore plays at Old Forge, last year's District 2 Class 1A champion.

The annual Battle for the Bell trophy between West Scranton and Scranton is scheduled for Sept. 10. Also that week, Western Wayne is scheduled to play at Delaware Valley.

On Sept. 17, Scranton Prep will play at Dunmore. The annual Triboro Rivalry game has Old Forge at Riverside on Oct. 8. Dunmore plays at Lackawanna Trail on Oct. 15. On Oct. 29, Old Forge is at Lackawanna Trail and Lakeland is at Dunmore.

Hanover Area, which is a member of the Wyoming Valley Conference, plays four games against LFC opponents (Susquehanna, Holy Cross, Carbondale Area and Old Forge).
