Scheffler shot his first over-par opening round of the season on Thursday at the Charles Schwab Challenge.
Scottie Scheffler failed to break par in the opening round for the first time this year Thursday on a tough afternoon of blustery conditions and a new feel at renovated Colonial that seemed to befuddle just about everyone but Charley Hoffman in the Charles Schwab Challenge. Hoffman had to deal with wind that gusted in the 20 mph range, putting a premium on shots into greens that were particularly firm from being so new. Scheffler's 2-over 72 on Thursday was the second time in his last three rounds he was over par.
The Flagler College women's golf team has earned the top seed in match play for the Division II national championship.
Charley Hoffman fired five birdies in a five-under par 65 to break free atop a crowded leaderboard at the US PGA Tour Charles Schwab Challenge, where world number one Scottie Scheffler struggled.Hoffman, chasing a fifth PGA Tour victory but his first since the 2016 Texas Open, had opened with a two-putt birdie at the par-five first and added birdies at the third, eighth and 11th.
