    Jordan Montgomery pitched seven scoreless innings, switch-hitting All-Star catcher Jonah Heim drove in a run and the AL West-leading Texas Rangers beat the Seattle Mariners 2-0 on Saturday night. The Rangers (86-68) won their fourth game in a row, including the first two games in the crucial series that began with the division rivals tied for the American League's third and final wild-card spot. Texas took over the AL West lead for the first time in September after winning the series opener the previous night at the same time Houston lost at home.

    Margarita Mota, the wife of Los Angeles Dodgers great Manny Mota and matriarch of a baseball family, died Saturday. Manny Mota, who is 85, is major league baseball’s No. 3 career pinch-hitter who won World Series titles with the Dodgers in 1981 and ’88. The Dominican outfielder played parts of 13 seasons from 1969-80 and 1982 with the Dodgers.

    Acosta leads Cincinnati to 3-0 victory over Charlotte

    Luciano Acosta had a goal and an assist to propel FC Cincinnati to a 3-0 victory over Charlotte FC on Saturday night. Neither team scored until Álvaro Barreal found the net unassisted in the first minute of stoppage time to put Cincinnati up 1-0 at halftime. It was the fourth goal this season for Barreal.
