Former New York Giant Mitch Petrus Dies From Heat Stroke

An Untimely Passing

Former New York Giant lineman Mitch Petrus passed away on Thursday morning from heat stroke. According to a statement from a spokesperson for the Pulaski County Coroner Gerone Hobb, Petrus was working outside his family's store in Arkansas when he started to feel unwell.

He was taken to Baptist Health Medical Center-North Little Rock before dying. His official cause of death is listed as heat stroke.

A Statement From His College Team

The University of Arkansas, where Petrus attended college and played as a lineman, posted a statement in the wake of his passing.

"We are deeply saddened by the passing of Mitch Petrus. He was an outstanding competitor, incredible teammate and a true Hog. He will be greatly missed by many. Rest easy Mitch."

The Giants Offer Their Condolences

Petrus won the Super Bowl in 2011 with the New York Giants, and the team offered their own statement of condolences following the tragic news.
