Editorial: Make Christmas merry for needy kids with donations to toy drive
There are still a few days remaining to donate new, unwrapped toys or send a check to the Town of Palm Beach United Way's 29th Annual Holiday Toy Drive.
Donations are being accepted through Dec. 4. This year, toys will be given to children who receive services from three United Way nonprofit partner agencies — Achievement Centers for Children and Families, the Opportunity Early Childhood Education and Family Center, and The Glades Initiative.
As happens every year, some families are having a difficult time making ends meet, much less buying holiday presents for their children.

“Our goal is to bring a smile to the face of as many children as possible,” said United Way board Chairman Bill Tiefel. “With so many families struggling financially this year, we hope to receive a mountain of toys from the Palm Beach community.”
Alice Eger, executive director of the Opportunity center, echoed his comment.
“Our low-income families have a difficult decision to make during the holidays; purchase gifts for their children or fall short for basic needs such as food, transportation and rent,'' she said.
Toys can be dropped off at the Central Fire Rescue Station, 355 S. County Road; the South Fire Rescue Station, 2185 S. Ocean Blvd.; Findlay Galleries, 165 Worth Ave.; the United Way office, 44 Cocoanut Row; or Field of Greens locations throughout Palm Beach County.
Monetary donations also can be made at www.palmbeachunitedway.org/toy-drive or dropped off at the United Way's office.
Last year, the toy drive collected hundreds of toys and more than $20,000. Donations are tax-deductible, and 100% of the proceeds go directly to Palm Beach County children in need.
There's still time to make Christmas memorable for a child in need. Please consider donating to this year's United Way toy drive.
