Civilian casualties reported as Russian invaders shell Enerhodar

“There are civilian casualties in the first micro-district – the area of the yacht club (in the Volna kitchen-garden community) – as a result of shelling of Enerhodar, which was carried out today from the suburbs,” Orlov said.
The Borysfen Yacht Club and the Volna community are located immediately to the north of Enerhodar, which is itself located next to the Zaporizhzhya Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP).
Russian troops have repeatedly staged provocations by shelling ZNPP, and have even threatened to blow it up in the event of an offensive by Ukrainian troops.

Later, Orlov added that a man who was walking his dog at the time died as a result of the attack. The animal was also killed.
Ukrainian state nuclear company Energoatom then reported in Telegram that an employee of the ZNPP, Maksym Marko, died as a result of shelling.

Two more energy workers were injured and have now been taken to the hospital, the company said.
It noted that at least six shells were fired at the city.
Russian invading forces seized ZNPP on March 4, in the first weeks of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine. From that moment on, the employees of the power plant have been held hostage by the invaders.

The Russians are using the station as protection for their military equipment, and as a firing position, as the Ukrainian Armed Forces cannot return fire because of the risk of damaging the nuclear reactors.
