CHP looking for driver in hit and run that left Turlock man with severe injuries

The California Highway Patrol is looking for the driver of a hit and run crash that left a Turlock man with major injuries trapped inside his vehicle for more than 45 minutes.

The crash occurred around 4:50 a.m. on Central Avenue, south of Ceres, according to California Highway Patrol Officer Tom Olsen.

Felix Alvarez, 29, of Turlock, was driving a Nissan sedan north on Central Avenue when a Dodge Ram pickup came from an orchard and drove into his path just north of Grayson Road.

The Nissan collided with the center of the left side of the pickup, which ended up on top of the Nissan, Olsen said.

Alvarez suffered major injuries and had to be extricated from his vehicle by firefighters, which took 48 minutes, according to the Modesto Fire Department.

Olsen said the driver of the Dodge Ram fled the scene and has not been identified. He said the pickup is registered out of Madera.

There were three passengers, all from Modesto, in the pickup. Amy Hernandez, 43, had minor injuries; John Johnson, 45, was not injured; and Holly Patrick, 42, suffered a laceration on her head. Patrick was not wearing a seat belt but the others were, Olsen said.

Anyone with information about the crash or the driver is asked to contact CHP Officers Aaron Norseen or Blake Mitchell at 209-545-7440.
