Brandon Marshall says war of words with Sheldon Richardson is “dead”

As far as New York Giants wide receiver Brandon Marshall is concerned, the war of words with New York Jets defensive end Sheldon Richardson is over.

Marshall refused to speak Tuesday about the conflict between himself and Richardson, former Jets teammates. Richardson directed verbal barbs at Marshall throughout the offseason, especially after Marshall signed with the Giants.

“I wasn’t surprised,” Marshall said. “There’s so much good energy. The environment is amazing so I don’t really have the time to go back to that. It’s dead. It’s dead.”

Marshall and Richardson’s beef began last season with a Week 3 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. The two got into an altercation and had to be separated by teammates.

In July, Marshall said he didn’t return to the Jets because they “didn’t stand a chance”. Richardson, in turn, called him “drama-queenish” and called him out for not owning up to his role in the Jets’ 5-11 season.

“That man knows what he did to the locker room a little bit,” Richardson said in an interview on ESPN’s The Michael Kay Show last week. “If he can’t come out on media and tell them what he did and how he actually quit on his way before the season is over with, then that’s all on itself.”

It wasn’t Richardson’s only verbal barb. He said had 15 reasons why the Jets locker room is “a whole lot easier to get along with” in May. Marshall wears No. 15.

Marshall said it’s a dead issue but his beef with Richardson will certainly be brought up in advance of the annual Giants/Jets preseason game on Aug. 26. The starters will get their most significant playing time of the preseason. It will be the first time the former teammates will be on the same field.

Richardson said earlier in training camp he was excited for the game but didn’t say why.

Another former Jet, Giants defensive end Damon “Snacks” Harrison, seems to be caught in the middle of this war of words. Harrison is a close friend and current teammate of Marshall. He is also a friend of Richardson as they once played in the same defense.

In spite of his friendship with both players, Harrison wants no parts of any questions about the Marshall/Richardson beef.

“I don’t concern myself with anything,” Harrison said. “I mind my own business.”
