Applications being accepted for Leavelle McCampbell alumni scholarships

Apr. 2—The Leavelle McCampbell Middle School Alumni Association recently announced that students can now apply for scholarships for 2022.

Scholarships are available for students who attended Leavelle McCampbell Middle School and will graduate from Midland Valley High School in 2022. Students can apply for the $2,000 LMMSAA Scholarship, the privately endowed $2,000 Jimmy Bryant scholarship, the $2,000 Mary Dees scholarship, the $1,000 Russell Gunter scholarship, the $1,000 Julian Proctor scholarship, the $1,000 Verna Proctor Memorial Scholarship and the $2,000 Star Masonic Lodge Post No. 99 Scholarship.

The Jean Johnson Memorial Scholarship is endowed by the Gregg-Graniteville Foundation and is in honor of Jean Johnson. Johnson was a coach, teacher and longtime employee of Gregg Park Civic Center. Midland Valley High School 2022 graduates who are involved in athletics, display good sportsmanship and citizenship and plan to attend a two to four year year technical college or a four-year college are eligible to apply.

To receive one of these scholarships, students must have a 3.0 GPA, display integrity and good character, exemplify good citizenship and have plans to attend either a 4-year college or a 2-4 year technical college.

The applications are due to guidance by Thursday, April 14.

The LMSAA Scholarship Program was established in 2013. It is funded by membership dues, by proceeds from Alumni Association events and activities and by private and memorial donations. There were 13 scholarships awarded in 2021 for a total of $22,000.

A total of $63,250 in scholarships have been awarded to date.
