4-year-old boy killed in Suffolk shooting, man arrested

A 4-year-old boy died in a shooting Sunday night in Suffolk and police charged a 38-year-old man in connection with his death, police said.

Police responded to the 200 block of Pine Street following a report of a shooting at 9:01 p.m. First responders found the boy in a residence and treated him for his injuries on the scene before taking him to a local hospital, where he died.

Antonio Lonnell Melton, 38, of Suffolk is charged with second-degree murder, use of a firearm in commission of a felony, possession of a firearm by a violent felon, and reckless handling of a firearm. He is being held at the Western Tidewater Regional Jail.
