2 killed Friday in crash in Ocala National Forest; one was passing on double yellow line

OCALA NATIONAL FOREST — Two people were killed and a third person injured Friday morning in a head-on crash in a rural part of Marion County.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a Honda CRV was westbound on County Road 314. The driver was passing other vehicles on a solid double yellow line (no passing zone) in the eastbound lane.

Troopers said the vehicle came up an incline in the roadway and ran straight into an older model eastbound Buick.

A witness to the crash spoke to the Star-Banner

A man interviewed briefly by a Star-Banner reporter said the SUV driver was trying to pass a row of vehicles, including his, and slammed into the Buick.

The speed limit on the two-lane roadway is 55 mph. Troopers said it's unknown if speed was a factor.

The roadway was blocked for several hours so FHP troopers and officials from the Medical Examiner's Office could investigate the crash and inspect the bodies.
