Yujie Sun Biography

Yujie heads into London as the top-ranked women's epee fencer in the world. She will be making her first Olympic appearance after taking the individual silver medal at the world championships last year, when she defeated world No. 2 Ana Branza of Italy in the semifinals before falling to countrywoman Li Na in the final. Yujie earned two other podium finishes during the 2010-11 season. Having also competed in junior events that season due to her age - she'll compete in London at the age of just19 - Yujie was something of an unknown before recently bursting onto the scene and quickly taking over the top ranking in her discipline. She was ranked 19th in 2009-10, the season before she ascended to the top spot.
