Olli Jokinen didn't need much time to make an impression with his new team. He had a first-period goal and assist in his Phoenix debut Saturday night and the Coyotes went on to win their season opener, 3-1 over the Columbus Blue Jackets. A big and tough first line, something the Coyotes had been missing for a long time, now is front and center.
With center Olli Jokinen, left wing Shane Doan and right wing Peter Mueller leading the way, the Coyotes head into Anaheim on Sunday night to take on the Ducks. Their mission is the same: Let Jokinen power his way up the ice to clear the way for his two linemates.
The power-play goals by Jokinen and Mueller in the season opener were big because the Coyotes struggled at times last year in those situations. And it likely will be success on special teams that goes a long way in determining how well the team will do.
