C Eric Staal's streak of consecutive games played reached 349, ranking second in franchise history behind Dave Tippett (419), before it ended Wednesday night when he sat out with an upper-body injury that's expected to keep him out for multiple games. Staal was third behind Calgary's Jay Bouwmeester (354 games) and Henrik Sedin (350 games) among active players with a consecutive-games streak. Staal's streak was the longest since the franchise's relocation to North Carolina from Hartford, Conn. |

The Hurricanes have determined that Staal will now be out for two to four weeks after he sustained an upper body injury last Sunday in a loss to the Sharks, the Raleigh News & Observer reports. Recommendation: Having contributed only five points (3G, 2A) in 13 games and now hurting, Staal fits the idiom of adding insult to injury. Heading into the season, plenty of owners were counting on Staal to be the centerpiece of their fantasy squads, but now all they can do is hope for him to quickly recover. |
