Feb 9 G Cam Ward (back) hasn't played since Feb. 3 at Calgary because of a lower back problem that seemed to become progressively worse during the first couple of days. He'll be re-evaluated during the Olympic break, meaning he'll miss a total of five games leading to the layoff. Yahoo! Sports

Feb 8 Ward's doctors want to observe his back injury for the next two weeks before deciding how to move forward, the Raleigh News & Observer reports.

Recommendation: Surgery hasn't yet been ruled in or out yet. Given how the Hurricanes have nothing to play for the rest of the season, they have all the reason to be careful with Ward.
