LW Christopher Higgins certainly isn't scared of New York. The Smithtown, Long Island product was the principle piece acquired in the June 30 blockbuster trade that sent C Scott Gomez to the Canadiens. The three-time 20-goal scorer doesn't expect there to be any more pressure in his hometown than he encountered in hockey-crazed Montreal. "I heard my name thrown around but you never think it's actually going to happen," said Higgins, who is a restricted free agent. "I'm absolutely thrilled. Growing up here, I know what Rangers fans are like." |

Higgins was traded to the Rangers on Tuesday for center Scott Gomez, TSN.ca reports. Recommendation: The move could save the Rangers as much as $5 million in salary this season, as Higgins should be in the $2-million range and Gomez's long-term deal was worth more than $7 million per year through 2013-14. If healthy, Higgins should be a viable source of 20 goals for the Rangers this season. |

The Rangers acquired Higgins and defensemen Ryan McDonagh and Pavel Valentenko from Montreal on Tuesday in exchange for center Scott Gomez and minor leaguers Tom Pyatt and Mike Busto. Advice: The trade clears a large amount of salary off the Rangers' budget. It also gives New York Higgins, who had 12 goals and 11 assists in 57 games for the Canadiens last season. |
