RW Brian Gionta, one of the Canadiens' prized free agent acquisitions, is out of the lineup indefinitely with a broken bone in his foot. Gionta was injured when was struck in the foot by a shot in the third period of the Nov. 3 game against Atlanta. It was originally believed to be nothing more than a bruise and he continued to play. But the pain became so unbearable that he pulled himself out of the warmup for the Nov. 14 game in Nashville. An x-ray and an MRI this week revealed the broken bone. |

Gionta will be out of action indefinitely with a broken bone in his left foot. Advice: The 30-year-old right winger, who was on crutches at the team's practice facility Wednesday, was hit on the foot by a shot Nov. 3 in a game against Atlanta. He played the next four games despite the pain. Gionta is tied for the team lead with eight goals with Mike Cammalleri and is third in team scoring with 13 points. |
