Daniel Alfredsson could have thrown his hat into the ring to be the new head coach of the Ottawa Senators. Instead, the club's former captain has opted to take time to learn the ropes as a member of new head coach Travis Green's staff. Speaking at the club's first season-ticket holder Spring Summit on Wednesday night at the Canadian Tire Centre with president Cyril Leeder, senior vice-president Dave Poulin told the crowd that Steve Staios, the club's president and general manager, spoke to Alfredsson about the opening.
Travis Green will have no shortage of experience by his side next season. Appointed as the head coach of the Ottawa Senators last month, the 53-year-old Green confirmed Tuesday morning his coaching staff will include former National Hockey League head coach Mike Yeo along with longtime assistant Nolan Baumgartner.
