RW Mike Knuble is expected to test the free agent market on July 1 to see what kind of interest NHL teams have in a soon-to-be 40-year-old right wing who scored six goals in 72 games for the Capitals last season and another two goals in 11 playoff games. Knuble earned $2 million this season and likely would settle for half that to play for his hometown Red Wings. "I'm open to playing," Knuble said. "I'd love to play. I feel good, my body feels good and I've got nothing nagging me. No nagging injuries or anything like that and that can be the case when you get into your upper 30s that you've got some chronic things going on. Mentally, I still enjoy playing the game and I still enjoy coming out to the rink every day and I enjoy being around the other players and I think that that's half the battle -- wanting to be there -- as you get older."
