Washington Commanders Reveal DT Johnny Newton Needs Second Foot Surgery
What goes up must come down they say and while the Washington Commanders have been riding high after high this offseason there was bound to be a setback along the way. This second procedure will be done on his left foot, not on the right foot which he had a procedure done on in January ahead of Washington selecting him in the NFL Draft. Quinn declined to put a timeline on Newton's recovery time once the procedure is complete but this new development means the rookie will miss the entirety of his rookie minicamp as well as the team's first session with veteran's present next week.

The Commanders got their quarterback, but it's fair to wonder if they took the right guy here. Jayden Daniels blossomed in his fifth and final year of college football, taking home the Heisman Trophy in a dazzling season for LSU. Daniels is on the older side and doesn't have elite physical tools as a passer, but is going to be an immediate asset in the run game. Drake Maye feels like a better pick, but time will tell. Regardless, the Commanders desperately needed a quarterback and they got one.

Love this pick for the Commanders. Newton has had some struggles with a foot injury over the past few months, but he’s as talented as they come for interior pressure players. He’s got a wide repertoire of pass-rush moves and if his foot is good to go, he and Jonathan Allen will wreck heads for Dan Quinn’s defense.

Shout out to the 2024 All-Juice Team! The Commanders grabbed a stud prospect to play in the slot for them. Sainristil is a competitive force who's not afraid to come downhill and hit people in the mouth. He’s got pretty solid chops in man coverage too. Nice pickup.
