Steelers Sign Former Alabama Player: Roll Call, May 13, 2024
Former Alabama football cornerback Anthony Averett has been signed by the Pittsburgh Steelers. The 2018 fourth-round pick spent the 2023 season off active rosters after being signed then released by the San Francisco 49ers after an injury, then having a stint on the Detroit Lions' practice squad. Best known as a starter on the Crimson Tide's stellar 2016 defense and 2017 national title team, Averett was initially selected by the Baltimore Ravens, with whom he spent four seasons.

Expert Commentary
Great get for the Steelers. Fautanu has all the skills necessary to be a long-term starter on the offensive line, which is something that Pittsburgh still needs. Fautanu can play guard or tackle and now the Steelers have a strong duo up front between him and Broderick Jones.

The Steelers continue their major youth movement up front. First Broderick Jones last season, then Troy Fautanu in the first round of this year's draft, and now Frazier to man down their center spot. The Steelers clearly wanted to fix the offensive line this year and they’ve certainly moved in the right direction.
