NFL draft: Rams take Miami safety Kamren Kinchens in 3rd round
HERMOSA BEACH — The Rams added some depth to their secondary to close out the second day of the NFL draft, selecting Miami safety Kamren Kinchens with the penultimate pick of the third round. Kinchens, the 99th overall pick in the draft, had 59 total tackles and five passes defended in each of his final two seasons with the Hurricanes. He totaled 11 interceptions as a sophomore and junior. He was a first-team Associated Press All-American in 2022. He joins a safety room that lost both starters from last season. Captain Jordan Fuller signed with the Carolina Panthers, while John Johnson III remains a free agent. The Rams signed Kamren Curl to a one-year deal to add to the room, which also returns

Expert Commentary
This is a very safe, solid pick for the Rams at this point in the draft. Verse is a high-floor player for the Rams that fits in well with the players they have up front. The Rams were looking at an offensive player earlier in the process, but they ended up with a stud pass rusher who immediately makes them better.

Expert Commentary
The Rams definitely had a need for a disruptive defensive presence, but Fiske has a bit of an odd profile. He’s a freakish athlete, but also an older prospect — which, admittedly, the Rams had success with a year ago. Fiske needs to add some strength to be an every-down player in the NFL, but there is some upside here considering his athleticism. A 2025 second round pick is a high price to pay here.

Expert Commentary
Corum is a good player, no doubt, but this feels like a weird fit with what Kyren Williams brought to the team last season. Still, a 1-2 punch with Williams and Corum behind a revamped offensive line might rake for the Rams.

Expert Commentary
Kinchens is a good playmaker and should be a productive member of the Rams’ secondary. His 4.65 40-yard dash and general poor performance at the NFL combine hurt him, but he’s still a good ball player.
