QBs Derek Anderson and Brady Quinn will enter training camp neck and neck, according to coach Eric Mangini.
At the start of the first voluntary minicamp, Mangini said Quinn had a slight edge because of the work done in the offseason program. But by the end of the mandatory minicamp Mangini said there is no frontrunner. This, despite the fact Anderson was forced to miss the last two practices with a lower right leg injury. Mangini said Anderson should be fine by the start of training camp.
"The best player is going to win it," offensive coordinator Brian Daboll said. "They are smart, tough, competitive, and they can both throw the football. We are looking for someone who can get into the huddle, call the play, get the people lined up...understand the whole mechanics of the huddle operation.
"The next thing is decision making and who can perform the best under pressure. We've been out there without any pads on. We've been trying to put on as much pressure situations as we can, but when the pads come on that will kind of sort itself out." |
