QB Aaron Rodgers' much-anticipated debut in a Monday night season opener against Minnesota on Sept. 8 isn't a given. Rodgers has endured a July he would just as soon forget, what with all the speculation of a comeback by predecessor Brett Favre and whether an apparent rift between Favre and team management can be resolved to pave his return.
For Rodgers' sake, not having so little the specter of Favre hanging over the practice field on the first day of training camp July 28 will be his only salvation. Rodgers was anointed the starter after Favre retired in March and devoted three months of offseason work to running an offense tailored to him and building chemistry with teammates.
As long as Favre isn't in the picture, Rodgers will be under the gun to get past the playing inexperience and injury history that have defined his pro career thus far.
