The Kansas City Chiefs, apparently fearful of losing in arbitration, agreed Monday to cut Johnson's suspension in half for making gay slurs.
Advice: The agreement saved the running back about $315,000. The Chiefs issued a terse announcement saying they had made the settlement in conjunction with the NFL Management Council and the NFL Players Association. Originally, they suspended the former two-time Pro Bowler two weeks, which would have cost him about $330,000.

Contrary to an earlier report, the agreement between Johnson and the Chiefs still includes a suspension for the November 8 game against Jacksonville, the Kansas City Star reports. However, Johnson will only miss one week's paycheck rather than two.
Recommendation: There was some confusion originally as to what the suspension being "cut in half" referred to, but it was simply a reference to Johnson's game checks, not the length of the suspension. He will still miss the Jaguars game and possibly more, as his long-term future with the team remains cloudy.
