Two years ago, Cypress Ranch entered the 2014 season as the top-ranked team in Texas, but the Mustangs faded down the stretch and Flower Mound ended up winning the state crown.

This year, Cypress Ranch kept a low profile throughout much of the season - not entering the Xcellent 50 National Baseball Rankings until last week - and it had not been ranked very highly during the season in the Texas High School Baseball Coaches Poll.

There's no overlooking Cypress Ranch now, however, as the Mustangs knocked off Dallas Jesuit 2-1 in the Class 6A state semifinals and then shut out Martin (Arlington) 3-0 in the championship game. The title is the first since the 2012 season for the Mustangs and it moves them from No. 25 in last week's rankings to No. 6 in this week's rankings.

The Mustangs' win, along with a Providence Catholic (New Lenox) win over Chicago Mt. Carmel in the Illinois Class 4A state championship game, resulted in movement in this week's rankings. Edwardsville (Ill.) and Flower Mound (Texas) both exited this week's rankings while Prosper (Texas), the Texas Class 5A state champion, and Providence Catholic replaced them.

Only one team in the Xcellent 50 remains active heading into the final week of the 2015 season. No. 14 Jasper (Ind.) plays in the Indiana Class 3A state championship game this week and has a shot at entering the top 10 with a win over Andrean. Other states still competing this week include Minnesota, Rhode Island, Maine and Wisconsin.
