Over the course of the next week or so, we will be taking a look at the Buffalo Bills newest rookie draft picks. Now up to bat today is the Buffalo Bills second sixth round pick from this past NFL Draft, cornerback Kevon Seymour.

Bills Rookie Profile: Kevon Seymour

The Player

Coming out of the University of Southern California, Kevon Seymour looks to be a player that will have a lot to prove once training camp opens up for the Buffalo Bills. Though he was a top performer in the 40-yard dash — running a 4.39 — his play and size leaves a lot to be desired for a potential NFL cornerback.

Having a wiry frame, Seymour is both shorter than the typical cornerback and smaller than the typical safety. Knee and ankle injuries last season will also be a concern heading into the much more physical NFL.

As a whole, this pick looks to be because of Seymour’s straight line speed and kick return ability. If he can come into the Bills and be a good kick and punt returner, he may be able to lock down a roster spot. If not, Seymour is a doubt to even make the week one roster.

The School

Earning a starting spot in 2013 as a sophomore with the USC Trojans, Kevon Seymour had a good college career. His numbers both represented good college ability and allowed him to take over as the teams number one cornerback his Junior season.

Though he was expected to be one-half of the NCAA’s best cornerback duos this past season, knee and ankle injuries limited him to just four starts his senior year. His small frame also allowed him to be bullied by bigger receivers at times while also struggling at defending the short, quick routes that allowed for contact.

A kick returner in college, again it looks certain that Seymour’s potential NF career will be one of special team duties. Without performing there, his best days will surely have been left behind him at USC.

The Position

Though he played as a cornerback in college, don’t expect him to play there in the NFL. If he does, it will either be at the nickel position or in an extreme emergency depth type of way. Instead, look for Seymour to be a special teams player for most of his career.

Having experience as a kick returner, Seymour will be competing for that same role with the Buffalo Bills. Depending on how he performs in the pre-season and in training camp, Seymour is likely the biggest draft pick question mark for the week one roster.

The Tape

With a lack of highlights available, above are some of Kevon Seymour’s highlights from his time in high school. Needing to showcase both his speed and athleticism, Seymour is a player many Buffalo Bills’ fans could soon remember, or forget.
