Aaron Williams could return next season for the Buffalo Bills

Suffering a season-ending neck injury on a hit from Miami Dolphins wideout Jarvis Landry earlier this season, there was concern about the future of Buffalo Bills safety Aaron Williams. Back-to-back season-ending injuries to the neck area brought much doubt about his future, something Williams and his father admitted during the middle part of the 2016 season.

Despite this doubt, it appears like Aaron Williams is willing to give playing in the NFL another crack. Speaking to the associated press, Williams’ father Anthony believes that his son is leaning towards a return next season.

“He’s leaning toward coming back. We’ll take it slow and go from there.”

This along with a tweet on twitter from Anthony leads many to believe that Aaron will attempt a return next season. However, after suffering two serious neck injuries in his career — let alone back-to-back seasons — there’s still some doubt remaining about what the future has in store for the current Buffalo Bills safety.

Even Aaron himself continues to express some doubt over his potential return, continually flip-flopping in his mind to say the least.

“It’s back and forth with ‘Yeah, I’m going to play this year to, man, I feel good not playing.’ It’s one of those things where I don’t want to make an irrational decision just by coming back today and seeing all the guys and being happy to be here.”

However, despite his want to return to the game, Williams did admit that some of his family has advised him to retire due to the risk of continuing to play. That said, Williams admitted that the risk is no greater than when he returned last season following a neck injury.

“If I say, ‘Yeah, I’m going to play next year and I get the same hit, am I going to be talking to you guys again?” Will I be walking? It’s those thoughts that are always running through my head. I don’t sleep. My mind runs 1,000 miles an hour thinking about what I’m going to do.”

While the Buffalo Bills could surely use the services of Aaron Williams next season, hopefully his decision will have his health fully in mind.
