Instacart projects key Q2 metrics above estimates, names new CFO
Instacart forecast its second-quarter gross transaction value (GTV) and core profit above estimates on Wednesday, helped by a surge in grocery orders as well as higher fees for the advertisements it showcases on its grocery delivery platform. Shares of the company were down about 4% in extended trading. "Short-term investors were hoping for bigger growth out of a young company, but the reality is that Instacart is no longer an upstart but a mature player that commands a considerable share of the online grocery market," said Emarketer analyst Blake Droesch.

Cease, 2 relievers combine on 1-hitter as Padres beat Cubs 3-0
Dylan Cease struck out 12 and combined with two relievers on a one-hitter, and the San Diego Padres beat the Chicago Cubs 3-0 on Wednesday. Cease went seven innings in a triumphant return to Chicago after the White Sox dealt him to San Diego in March. Wandy Peralta got three outs and Robert Suarez worked the ninth for his 12th save in 12 chances, finishing the Padres' second shutout this season.
