Florida deputies who fatally shot US airman burst into wrong apartment, attorney says
The family of a 23-year-old Black U.S. Air Force airman who was fatally shot by sheriff's deputies at his off-base apartment in Florida last week will join civil rights attorney Ben Crump for a news conference Thursday calling for transparency in the investigation. Crump said in a statement released Wednesday that Okaloosa County Sheriff's deputies responding to a disturbance call at the apartment complex in Fort Walton Beach burst into the wrong unit and fatally shot Senior Airman Roger Fortson when they saw he was armed with a gun.

In surprise move, Somalia asks U.N. to end political mission
Somalia's government has requested the termination of a U.N. political mission that has advised it on peace-building, security reforms and democracy for over a decade, according to a letter the foreign minister wrote to the Security Council. The request for the departure of the 360-member United Nations Assistance Mission in Somalia (UNSOLD) when its mandate expires in October took the mission by surprise, three U.N. officials told Reuters, asking not to be named. The end of the political mission is separate to a U.N.-mandated African Union safe-keeping mission, currently comprising at least 10,000 soldiers, which is due to withdraw and hand over to the Somali state by the end of this year.
