    Kyle Larson began what will become a busy month of May on a small dirt track nestled in a crook of the Missouri River, where he started outside of the top 10 in his sprint car Friday night and managed to climb to third place by the finish. The 2021 NASCAR Cup Series champion is trying to join Tony Stewart as the only drivers ever to complete “the double,” finishing every lap of the Indianapolis 500 and Coca-Cola 600 on the same day. Several have tried over the years, most recently Kurt Busch in 2014, but the task has proven to be among the most grueling in all of motorsports.

    Phillies' Trea Turner to miss at least six weeks with a left hamstring injury

    Trea Turner will miss at least six weeks with a left hamstring strain after being injured in the fourth inning of Philadelphia’s 4-3 win over the San Francisco Giants on Friday. The Phillies placed the two-time All-Star shortstop on the 10-day injured list on Saturday, but Turner said he’ll need more time. Turner has started all 30 games this season, helping the Phillies (22-11) enter Saturday with the most wins in baseball.

    Thousands of Madonna fans gather on Copacabana beach for free concert

    Thousands gathered on Rio de Janeiro's famous Copacabana beach on Saturday ahead of a free open-air concert by pop star Madonna that was expected to attract some 1.5 million people. The Brazilian show marks the end of Madonna's greatest hits world tour, "Celebration," which started in late 2023. Rio's city government has said it would deploy thousands of police officers around the concert area, managing the crowds with a strategy similar to its plan for the city's famous New Year's Eve celebrations.
