    US calls on Iran to halt `unprecedented' weapons transfers to Yemen's Houthis for attacks on ships

    The United States called on Iran on Monday to halt its transfer of an “unprecedented” amount of weaponry to Yemen’s Houthi rebels, enabling its fighters to carry out “reckless attacks” on ships in the Red Sea and elsewhere. U.S. deputy ambassador Robert Wood told the U.N. Security Council that if it wants to make progress toward ending the civil war in Yemen it must act collectively to “call Iran out for its destabilizing role and insist that it cannot hide behind the Houthis.”

    A lawyer representing U.S. military families suing over a 2021 jet fuel leak into a Navy drinking water system in Hawaii asked a judge Monday to award plaintiffs a range of about $225,000 to about $1.25 million each in damages. In a closing argument at the end of a two-week trial in federal court in Honolulu, the plaintiffs' attorney, Kristina Baehr, said she is not asking for millions of dollars per person.
