    Britain and NATO allies must spend more, be tougher,  UK's Cameron to say

    Britain's foreign minister, David Cameron, will urge its fellow NATO members to meet their pledge to spend 2% of GDP on defence, and to be tougher and more assertive with adversaries, in a speech to be delivered on Thursday. In what is billed as his first major pronouncement as foreign secretary, Cameron will say NATO must "out-compete, out-cooperate and out-innovate", and that Britain must not only bolster existing alliances but also forge new partnerships around the globe.

    Florida deputies who fatally shot US airman burst into wrong apartment, attorney says

    Deputies responding to a disturbance call at a Florida apartment complex burst into the wrong unit and fatally shot a Black U.S. Air Force airman who was home alone when they saw he was armed with a gun, an attorney for the man’s family said Wednesday. Senior Airman Roger Fortson, 23, who was based at the Special Operations Wing at Hurlburt Field, was in his off-base apartment in Fort Walton Beach when the shooting happened on May 3. Civil rights attorney Ben Crump said in a statement that Fortson was on a Facetime call with a woman at the time of the encounter.

    Jury finds McAlester man guilty on 4 counts of manslaughter

    May 8—A Pittsburg County jury found a McAlester man guilty on four counts of manslaughter Wednesday following a three-day trial. Court records show Javen Ray Springs, 37, was charged with four counts of first-degree manslaughter in January 2022 for the September 2021 deaths of Meghan D. Ransome, 30; Christopher B.
